We sure do! At Horizon Primary Care we offer a wide range of non-surgical, in-office dermatological procedures. Please see a list and descriptions below.
Actinic Keratosis Treatment
We offer treatment for Actinic Keratosis or (AK). An actinic keratosis (ak-TIN-ik ker-uh-TOE-sis) is a rough, scaly patch on your skin that develops from years of exposure to the sun. It’s most commonly found on your face, lips, ears, back of your hands, forearms, scalp or neck. Also known as a solar keratosis, an actinic keratosis enlarges slowly and usually causes no signs or symptoms other than a patch or small spot on your skin. These patches take years to develop, usually first appearing in people over 40. A small percentage of actinic keratosis lesions can eventually become skin cancer. You can reduce your risk of actinic keratoses by minimizing your sun exposure and protecting your skin from ultraviolet (UV) rays. Here in the office we use freezing (cryotherapy). Actinic keratoses can be removed by freezing them with liquid nitrogen. Your doctor applies the substance to the affected skin, which causes blistering or peeling. As your skin heals, the lesions slough off, allowing new skin to appear. Cryotherapy is the most common treatment. It takes only a few minutes and can be done at your next appointment.
Wart Removal Services
We also offer treatment for Verrucous Warts (common warts). We also use freezing cryotherapy for this type of wart and it is extremely effective at removing warts. Cryotherapy involves freezing a wart using a very cold substance (usually liquid nitrogen). Cryotherapy is a standard treatment for warts and can be done in a doctor’s office. The liquid nitrogen application usually takes less than a minute. Your provider may trim the wart with a small knife before applying liquid nitrogen. A numbing local anesthetic is usually not needed but may be used in some cases. Your doctor applies the liquid nitrogen to the wart using a probe or a cotton swab. Liquid nitrogen can also be sprayed directly on the wart. Most warts require 1 to 4 treatments, with 1 to 3 weeks between each treatment.
Skin Tag Removal Services
We offer treatment for Skin Tags. Skin tags are common, acquired benign skin-colored growths that resemble a small, soft balloon suspended on a slender stalk. Skin tags are harmless growths that can vary in number from one to hundreds. Males and females are equally prone to developing skin tags. Obesity seems to be associated with skin tag development. Although some skin tags may fall off spontaneously, most persist once formed. Cryotherapy is the standard treatment for skin tags and can be done at your next office visit.
